May 9 - Let the Games Begin!!!

On Friday, the young adults enjoyed their first of what is to be several game nights. Although it rained nonstop the entire day, that did not deter us from gathering for this highly anticipated event. Prior to testing our wits and skills, we enjoyed some pizza, wings and other snacks. And then the games began!!

First up was DVD Family Feud, where the "Sunflowers" challenged the "Dandelions". Now don't be fooled by the team names, these questions where not light weight by any means. Who do you know that can name the top 5 most popular icons known for their sideburns (btw, Elvis was #1)? After being behind by over 40 points, the Sunflowers were almost able to make a comeback. The game ended with the Sunflowers having a score of 411 and the Dandelions having a score of 412...talk about competition!

And then there was Taboo. New teams were formed and new team names were created. For this activity, to very intellectually intimidating names were selected - the "Inteligente" faced off against the "Iron Men". After several excitng rounds, we learned that a shovel is apparently a common office tool, and the word park is synonymous for Rosa Parks (Badista had to put her foot down on that one). A fun time was had by all.

Some pictures from this event are below. Thanks so much to everyone for participating, I hope that you had a great time. Next time, we will have to make sure to get the spades and other card games going early :)

April 13 - Young Adults Brunch

Today the young adults hosted a fabulous brunch. About 16 of us gathered after Mass to fellowship and meet with new and old faces. Our group is growing! The spread was absolutely awesome and boy did we eat! We should all consider opening a restaurant (if you have recipes for your dish, please post them in the comments). After we stuffed our faces, we had a a few brief announcements, and Melanie prepared a reflection about "What is the driving force and inspiration in our lives today?" I hope that everyone will take the time to think about our reflection during turbulent times.

A BIG thanks to everyone for making this event a success!!! Below are a list of upcoming events as well as some pictures from the brunch.

March 30th - Young Adults Mass

On Sunday, March 30, the commissioning ceremony of the young adults ministry was held. During the Mass, members of the ministry precessed in and sat together, and we served in various other positions throughout the service (i.e., Eucharist carriers, choir members, lecturers, etc.). We wore green to symbolize new life, growth, and renewal. We also recited our mission statement (see below) in unison :)

After the Mass, the young adults hosted a fellowship which was open to all members of the congregation. It was a great spread consisting of doughnuts, cakes, juice, veggies, brownies, pies, and more.

This ministry is off to a great start!
